Text Box: We do basic lab tests in the office, such as hematocrits, urinalysis, and strep tests. We send more complex requests to Quest, LabCorp, or the hospital laboratory. Our procedures include breathing treatments, pulse oximetry, hearing, vision screens, wound drainage, and minor suturing. We do ear piercing with hypoallergenic earrings.

An integral part of all well checkups is assessing the developmental progress of each child. Gross and fine motor skills along with social and language milestones are followed closely and screened more formally at appropriate ages with the MCHAT and PEDSM tools. Parent input is essential in helping us determine who may need additional intervention.
Text Box: We use special forms to asses our asthmatic children at both checkup and followup visits. Our goal is to minimize acute visits, but we do see asthmatics during flare ups. We do nebulizer treatments, pulse oximetry, medication teaching and develop action plans to optimize control. Education for both the patient and parents plays a large role in what we do. Text Box: Parenting is not always easy and some children have temperaments that are particularly challenging. We offer advice and resources to help determine what is normal, what interventions work, and when further evaluation is necessary. We use the Vanderbilt ADHD assessment form to help guide any need for medication. Text Box: Healthy lifestyle choices begin early and we include the entire family in offering suggestions and guidance toward achieving that goal.
